Here at ‘The Cottage’

We have a highly visible localised curriculum, Maniapototanga that is integrated across the centre, alongside a strong commitment to New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki.

WITHIN THE CHILD LIES THE FATE OF THE FUTURE

Maniapototanga

Maniapototanga was implemented back in 2016; kaiako provide tamariki with a foundation to learn about the history within Maniapoto, through learning stories, areas of play, activities and resources that reflect Ngati Maniapoto as Tangata Whenua.  Each child of Rereahu has a skill and expertise and these are the attributes that are implemented into the curriculum. Ngā Pou: Maniapoto, Matakore, Tū-Whakaheke-Ao, Te-Io- Wānanga, Tū-Rongo-Tapu-Ārau, Kahu-Ariari, Kinohaku, Te Rongorito.

Te Whariki

Te Whariki, the Ministry of Education’s early childhood education curriculum, interweaves 4 principles, Empowerment/Whakamana, Holistic Development/Kotahitanga, Family and Community/Whanau Tangata, Relationships/Nga Hononga with the following strands – Wellbeing/Mana Atua, Belonging/Mana Whenua, Contribution/Mana Tangata, Communication/Mana Reo and Exploration/Mana Aoturoa.
